KUYKENDALL-JIM

Jim Kuykendall grew up in Mineola Texas and attended the Broad Street church of Christ. In 1978 he was twice blessed when he met and married J.J. his wife of 36 years, and he started his railroad career that same year. Jim started working as a Brakeman Conductor for the Missouri Pacific (now Union Pacific) railroad. He was promoted into management and was transferred to Spring where he and JJ first attended Spring Woodlands church in 1986. Other promotions took him to Arkansas, Oklahoma before returning them to Oak Ridge North in 1999. “After living here the first time, we always considered this place, and this church to be our home, and we were blessed to be back.”

Jim and J.J. have two married daughters and four grandchildren. “We are blessed by our daughters, and truly blessed with our grandchildren!”

Jim left the Union Pacific Railroad in 2004 and is the Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations for the Port Terminal Railroad Association in Houston. He also serves as the Mayor of Oak Ridge North. He has a BA degree in Organizational Management from Philander Smith College; a Master’s degree in Management from Southern Nazarene University; and is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation at Abilene Christian University. “I love people, I love the Lord, and I love his church. I want to help make a positive difference in this life, as God gives me the time and ability to do so!”

Jim and JJ love to camp and travel, and Jim is an accomplished watercolor artist. Over the years Jim has served the church in several ministry areas as a Deacon, and currently helps oversee the Involvement and Hospitality Ministries as an Elder.

Jim has two sayings he will tell you: “Expect great things” and “God did not bring us this far to have us fail now!”

I have been married to my wife, Terrine, for over 30 years and have two adult sons, two daughters-in-law and one grandson. I have been employed as a Houston Police Officer/Sergeant for 30 years. I am currently assigned to the Houston Police Academy but enjoyed working in several other divisions within HPD. I enjoy traveling and outdoor activities such as golf and biking. I have a passion for serving others by feeding the homeless, greeting guests and members at church and visiting members at the hospital.

I believe the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of the members at Grace Crossing, helping them to experience God way beyond their imagination. As one of the shepherd’s at Grace Crossing, I am blessed to serve in the Hospitality and Hospital Visitation Ministries.
