Disaster Recovery Supplies Needed

Grace Crossing, A Community Church of Christ

Disaster Recovery

Thanks for your incredible response in the wake of Hurricane Harvey! Your generosity has and is making a difference in the lives of so many people affected by the immense flooding in the Houston area!

Here is a brief summary to bring you up to date:
Because of the overwhelming, nationwide response to our Hurricane Bucket Challenge, Grace Crossing has distributed buckets to more than 3000 homes throughout the Houston region. By partnering with about a dozen other regional churches, several non-profits, a couple of adopted schools, and by distributing in the neighborhoods of our members, we have been able to get much needed help to so many in a timely way. We could not have done it without your help!
Through the generous donations of money and supplies by individuals and organizations, we operated a free Donation/Distribution Center on-site that was open 7 days a week and staffed with Grace Crossing members to serve literally hundreds, if not more than a thousand, families with much needed resources.
Our Assistance Ministry has expanded to help flood-affected people with financial assistance, temporary housing, and the dispatching of volunteer work crews to help muck and demo houses.
We hosted over 200 flood affected families for a free meal and a helpful, informative seminar on how to deal with FEMA and their insurance companies. We have received a lot of positive feedback from this seminar.
Things are changing rapidly, however. Texans are an independent sort and are moving through the “mucking out” stage very quickly. We are now looking ahead to how God might use us next. As we transition from Relief to Recovery, we’re initiating an effort to coordinate work crews and launching an adopt-a-house project for mold remediation and reconstruction. We have the benefit of some very experienced relief and recovery organization partners as we prepare to launch this new phase. Be looking for more exciting information on this effort!
Financial donations are still greatly needed. We will still be receiving much needed supplies as we shift our focus. Our website list of requested supplies will change as needs are changing. Please check back at our website regularly. Increasingly, we will need recovery and reconstruction supplies such as sheetrock, mud, HVAC filters, mold cleaners, gloves, trash bags, tools, etc.
Most of all, your continued prayers are needed for the families who have been affected and for our discernment as we seek to allow God to use us to serve and bless our communities.
