Honduras 2016

HONDURAS SUMMER MISSION TRIP • JULY 25–AUGUST 1

Each summer, GC members and families travel to Honduras to spend a week working side by side with our Honduran brothers and sisters.

Objectives
  • Be exposed to the foreign mission field and the great work God is doing in Honduras.
  • Show our family practical applications of Jesus Christ’s commission to love people.
  • Help all of us discover whom God made us to be in service to Him.
  • Strengthen and encourage local Honduran congregations.
  • Demonstrate Jesus’ love to people of Honduras.
  • Build a bond between the Church in the US and the Church in Honduras.
Activities

We will be working closely with the Mission Lazarus team and the local churches in Morcovia (Renacer Morcovia, Monjaras, Cedeno and Boca del Rio Viejo) where our group has worked closely for several years. Our major project is still being finalized, but likely we will be building either community facilities, or homes in one of our sister communities. We will also be putting on Vacation Bible Schools, distributing food and clothing, and direct evangelism. We will make our “base camp” at the Mission Lazarus Ranch, Refuge and Headquarters in Jayacayan. We will work closely with the members of the Morcovia Churches and spend time with the Mission Lazarus team who are running clinics and schools in the region.

Requirements

  • At least completed 10th grade unless accompanied by at least one parent. Families are encouraged to come with children who have completed at least 7th grade.
  • Valid passport with an expiration date at least six months after our departure (i.e. your passport must expire no earlier than February 2018).
  • Medical shots: You need to have current Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B (this is a one time series of three shots spaced out over time, so you need to get started on these if you don’t have them already), Tetanus, Thyphoid (optional). Malaria prevention is a series of pills. We use a medicine called Chloroquin which we obtain in Honduras and make available to all team members.
  • You must raise your own travel expenses ($1,500.00).
  • You must actively participate in group preparation projects and group fund raising efforts for the mission funds needed. (This is separate and apart from your personal fund raising for travel expenses.)

Support Needs

We need lots of adult help / sponsorship to pull off a trip like this.

  • Serious, consistent prayer support.
  • Adult leadership to plan, schedule, and organize fund-raising efforts.
  • Creative help in planning and preparing VBS materials and activities.
  • Logistics help gathering and coordinating the supplies and materials we will bring.
  • Adults willing to go with us on the trip.
